Biology is an advanced science course that is offered to our eighth grade students. The course is designed for students to study cells, molecular heredity, organisms and their behavior, matter and energy, and living systems. The class will meet every day and requires students to meet for an additional laboratory period once per week. The course includes the use of scientific inquiry, research, measurement, problem solving, laboratory apparatus and technologies, experimental procedures, as well as general lab safety procedures. The course will provide students with opportunities to interact directly with natural phenomena and with data collected by others using tools, materials, data collection techniques, and models.
This course allows for students to develop a growing understanding of the complexity and ambiguity of empirical work, as well as the skills to calibrate and troubleshoot equipment used to make observations.
