Three students from Six Mile Charter Academy attended the Lee and Charlotte County 2016 59th annual Thomas Alva Edison Science Fair. The fair consisted of 300 plus students from both Lee and Charlotte counties. All three of the Six Mile Charter students were awarded great recognitions. One 8th grade student was awarded honorable mention in the biochemistry category for her project “Milk Spoilage.” One of our 7th grade students was awarded second place in chemistry for her project “Growing Crystals,” and another 7th grade student was awarded first place with her project “Cats Counting Calories.” That student was also awarded a scholarship to attend the Summer Research Opportunity held at Florida Gulf Coast University, as well as being honored as a Grand Award Winner! The Grand Award prize was given with a $2,500 college scholarship to Florida Gulf Coast University, an all expense paid invite to the State fair competition, and many other prizes! Congrats to these accomplishments achieved by these three young scientists!
